14 Best Sleepover Movies for Teens

A few weeks ago I posted a list of recommendations for kids and tweens. This week we'll look at several sleepover movies for teens! In a world full of trashy teen movies, it's tempting to think there are no appropriate films for teenagers and young adults. However, there are clean films that are great sleepover movies.

Best Sleepover Movies for Girls

Pride and Prejudice (1995). Photo courtesy of IMDb.com

Pride and Prejudice (1995)
Starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, Rated TV-PG

While this is technically a mini-series, I couldn't help including this classic romance. The wealthy Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy are the center of attention when they come to the small town of Hertfordshire. Mr. Bingley immediately falls in love with Jane Bennet, but her sister Elizabeth is repulsed by his friend, Mr. Darcy, almost as soon as they meet. As she spends more time with him and hears about his doings, she's convinced she can never marry such a man and sparks fly when they encounter each other. After Mr. Darcy proposes to her, Elizabeth finds that her first impressions of the man may not be accurate. Has she made a mistake?

Note: Because of the length of this movie, some might prefer to watch the 2005 version of the story. Check out my comparison review here to see the difference between the two movies.

Sabrina (1995)
Starring Harrison Ford, Julia Ormund, and Greg Kinnear, Rated PG

Sabrina Fairchild, the chauffeur's daughter, grew up with the rich Larrabee brothers, Linus and David. David is fun, flirtatious, and sanguine and she's had a crush on him since they were little. Linus focuses on making shrewd business deals and making money. Sabrina goes to Paris for a job at Vogue, where her dad hopes she'll forget about David.

When she returns, she finds David engaged and Linus about to complete a billion dollar merger with David's soon-to-be father-in-law. When David falls in love with Sabrina, Linus comes up with the plan to woo, then dump her after the merger. But the businessman doesn't account for the possibility of actually falling in love with her.

Warning: there are a few swear words and one instance of God's name taken in name. Also, there's a brief scene where two people are kissing on a bed, fully clothed.
North and South (2004). Photo courtesy of IMDb.com

North and South (2004)

As the workers prepare to strike and the masters make plans to keep the upper hand, Margaret becomes entangled in the conflict and with one of the mill-owners.

Note: One of the minor characters commits suicide by laying face down in a stream. Might be disturbing for some.

But neither of them reckon on her step-mother trying to get one of her own daughters on the throne.

Warning: There are three swear words said.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
