Be aware that there is a significant difference between the reviews and recommendations on this blog. Just because I review a book, TV show, or movie does not mean I recommend it. I am simply analyzing the work and giving my honest opinion of it, as well as providing key points such as the plot summary, age appropriateness (if the reader should choose to read or watch it), and anything else that's noteworthy.
Muppet Treasure Island is one of the most unique retellings of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel of the same name. Made in 1996 and starring Tim Curry, Billy Connolly, and Jennifer Saunders, this quirky movie is full of swashbuckling pirates, sea adventures, and humor.

Plot Summary
Young Jim Hawkins longs to do more than serve ale at a tavern. So when a dying pirate hands him a map and tells him of treasure buried long ago, he loses no time in getting a ship and setting sail with his friends the Great Gonzo and Rizzo. But once they are aboard, Captain Abraham Smollett (played by Kermit the Frog) realizes that something is fishy, especially the ship's cook, Long John Silver. Little do they realize Long John Silver is after the gold himself and will do anything to get his hands on it.

Pros and Cons
The movie follows the book with surprising accuracy. There were relatively few changes, such as Benjamina (aka Miss Piggy) being queen on an island and a few added bits for comedy. The action begins almost immediately, but it was balanced out with humor.
There was only one swear word in the entire show. Some alcohol is present and at one point Captain Smollett forbids the crew drinking. It is implied that Benjamina was engaged to quite a few pirates and captains. There are some scenes that may frighten younger children, such as sword fighting, a pirate dying in the beginning, a building burning down, and another pirate shouting death threats.

Notes
The movie is rated G and is best for ages 8 and older, depending on the maturity level. Adults will also enjoy this.
